Today I did nothing more than practicing on the walk cycle animation. It is still hard, but not as hard as I used to feel the first time I tried. I managed to finish the complete walk cycle by afternoon, and ready to show it to Abang Amat.
And right before I call him, suddenly the music that was playing in my headphone went screechy, and the mouse wouldn't move, and no matter what I do, the laptop screen is frozen.
My laptop HANG.
And I have not, I repeat, I have not, saved my work from the start. I don't even know what to feel at the time. To get angry, to feel sad, or what. I really struggled to do the walk cycle, and now it's gone, poof, just like that. Only because I did not press the Ctrl+S key, not even once.
And the most disappointing part is when I have to tell Abang Amat about the stupid incident. I can see a slight disappointment in his eyes, and that disappointed me even more. I was emo for a while.
And I did the walk cycle animation all over again after lunch hour. To my surprise, it is easier this time. It is not as hard as this morning. And I can draw better and faster too, using the Wacom.
I managed to finish it in 3 hours, instead of one and a half day like the previous one that was gone. Showed it to Abang Amat, and he told me where is wrong and what needed to be improved and all. Later he showed me some basic on how to do special effect in Flash, such as water dropping and splashing. It looks pretty hard to do because it needs detailed drawings, great timing, and good imagination.
Two things I learned today:
1) To SAVE, SAVE, and SAVE all your works from time to time.
2) Practices really makes us better at the things that we do. Seriously.
Bye. :)

Day 8
I did 4 designs for the proposal letter header for Akil Story. So soon they will be shown to Ms. Khatijah and she will choose one that is going to be used. :)
I have no other things to do after that, so my supervisor, Abang Amat, asked me to practice more on 2D animating. Man, you have no idea how I was dreaded when I heard him. Hoho. Because to draw the character's limbs one by one is pretty hard. No, scratch that. Really hard.
But of course, it'll get better with time. More practices needed to be done. I have to show one finished animated character tomorrow (walking Akil), so tonight I'll try to get it done so that tomorrow I can do other thing, hopefully.
Ok Bal this is bad. Face it, never run! :P

Day 7
Nothing much I did today. I have to design a few headers that is going to be used for Akil Story's proposal letter.
Other than that, I was just browsing the net and saw some very very cool videos of motion graphics done by talented programmers by using only codes. Seriously, I never knew we could do that. Image, of course. But moving graphics? With such smooth movements and such beautiful graphics? From codes to develop such mind-blowing motion graphics... super power lah.
I guess that's all. :)

Day 2 - 6
Day 2: Friday, 2nd April 2010
The second day continues on background tracing and colouring. Akil Story has a spesific set of colour scheme, therefore I have to practice on how they use the colour, how to shade and how to match the colours based on the samples that I see in their collection.
Then, someone new came into the office. Ms. Khatijah was with him, and she introduced him to me as my supervisor. His name is Rahmat, and is called Abang Amat.
Not too long after that, I learned a new technique in animation. Basically we have to convert an image into a symbol, and get into that symbol to draw movements for that particular symbol in the keyframes. I have never done this technique before. Fazli, another animator, patiently taught me how to do it. The benefit of using this technique is that:
I also learnt on how to do lip-sync, which is to match the characters' mouth to the recorded voice. I took a sample of a recorded voice and slowly animate my character's mouth accordingly. I had fun doing this, especially when I saw that the mouth and the voice synchronizes well together.
Day 3: Monday, 5th April 2010
I'm gonna write in point forms lah. Easier and simpler.
1) Continued practicing on the animation technique that I have learned the day before.
2) I have been given my first job, finally. That is, to produce a... sort of like a montage for the animation to show some excerpt from a Surah that will be recited by Akil, the main character of Akil Story.
3) I also learned that no matter what we do, we HAVE to SAVE our work from minute to minute because we never know when the computer will hang, or when the software will crash. It could happen in all of a sudden, and the next thing you know, you have to start again from scratch. *screams in annoyance*
Day 4: Tuesday, 6th April 2010
Today I learned a new software that I have been avoiding all this while. What software? It's the software that makes my eyes go @.@ everytime I open it. We don't have a subject to specifically learn that software in Uniten, so if you would like to learn on how to use it, you have to pick the alternative way which is to learn it by yourself. And that is what I have been trying to do since last year but to no avail. My eyes will go @.@ anddd I'll close the program and do something else.
By the way the software is Adobe After Effect. He he. I have made some of the work in Flash, but they say it is better if I use After Effect, as the effect would be much better and prettier. But the problem is I know nothing about Adobe After Effect. Seriously nothing. Zero. So when they told me to use Adobe AE, I was like... oh. God. I'm. Dead.
So I watched a few tutorial videos and tried to just click and click and click on everything in AE. Fazli taught me some of the techniques that can be used in it, and I learned more and more each time.
Day 5: Wednesday, 7th April 2010
On day 5 I continued on learning to use Adobe AE. The software really has given me a hard time and hard headache.
However, I have to admit that it really really is super cool software. I was captivated and mesmerized by the beauty of the effects that we could produce by using AE. Fazli showed me some sample and showed me how he does it, and I became more and more interested. I can't wait for the weekend to come, I'm gonna spend some time to learn more on how to use Adobe AE.
Then I continued making the montage, slowly.
Day 6: Thursday, 8th April 2010
Today the montage is done! Yippeee. I'm so happy. My first work in using Adobe AE ever. Ever! I was so excited, eventhough it is not 100% done by me because there are parts of the montage that was edited by Fazli to make it better, but still.
And thanks to Abang Amat, who is willing to share his experiences in this animation world, I now know a bit more about animation companies, about production teams, and some views that I have never known before.

Day 1
Day 1
Thursday, 1st April 2010
This is going to be a bit long.
Today is my first day of being an intern at Khalifa Production. Yes, my first day starts 5 days earlier than the actual date. I will be doing my internship from 1st April 2010 until 30th June 2010. 10 days extra, but oh well, just bring it onn. :)
The company was located in MSC Commercialization Centre., MMU Cyberjaya. When I first arrived here a month back, I thought it really is a good place as the building was surrounded by so many trees and plants; and they even have a garden inside of the building. There is also a good amount of parking space and there is no problem at all in finding one when I arrived here. I really love the atmosphere, I feel close to the nature. :]
So first of all I'd like to introduce the company that I am working at. The name is Khalifa Production Sdn. Bhd., and it is a small company run by a high-ambitioned lady, Miss Khatijah Abdul Rashid, who is the big boss of the company. She is also the Managing Director.
Khalifa Production is a company that produces animation, e-learning development, printing, and courseware. Its current big project is to produce a 2D animation titled 'Akil Story', which is about a kid named Akil who will solve daily problems that occur by implementing what is being taught in our holy Al-Quran. Basically, Akil Story is created to bring the children closer to Al-Quran through animation.
When I entered the company's office, I was greeted by Ms. Khatijah. I didn't know that she is Ms. Khatijah, as she looks very young. And later when she introduced herself, I was a bit surprised and impressed at the same time.
Later I was being briefed on my job scope. Basically I will be helping the animators to do the animation that they are doing, and that includes animating, background design, tracing and colouring, and also a bit of website developing.
Then, I was brought into the part of the office where the people under Creative Department is being put at. I was being introduced to them before Ms. Khatijah passed me to them for discussion of what I am going to do next.
I was then asked to practice on background tracing and colouring. One animator named Akmal gave me a sample picture of the background that they use in the animation, and told me to trace into Adobe Flash CS3 by using the graphic tablet (Wacom). I thought it would be really easy, but it wasn't. It really wasn't, gaaah. In fact, I was having a hard time at first, as this is my first time in using a Wacom. But it is really fun practising and using it. I plan to get a Wacom for myself later when my training ends, as for now I will be using the one that the company provides.
And that was what I did the rest of the day.
I have to say that my first day is not so good, as I felt really really awkward. Perhaps it's because of the new environment and new people.
But the best thing is, I CAN WEAR CASUAL TO WORK WEHEE
My working hours will be from 8.30 to 5.30, but I went home at about 6 and was really exhausted and extremely-remely punctured. It's because I've been sitting on the chair for way longer than my body could handle. I slept at 10 that night, and dreamt of nothing. zzzz

Welcoming Speech.
Salam and hi all. Please ignore the cheesy title.
Okay so.. we, the students who are undergoing the industrial training, have received an email from the university this morning, saying that we have to create a blog specially dedicated to write what happens during our practical days as a trainee. My jaw literally dropped when I read the email this morning because it was so unexpected. :P
Honestly, some friends of mine have already created a blog for this. I thought it is an interesting idea, but I was too lazy to do the same, because we have already got the logbook and I have written everything in there. But on second thought, I think it is good to have a special blog for the training too. Sharing is caring eh?
It is kind of like an order ehehe, soo... cing cing cing, here's the blog.
Ok lah that's all. I'm gonna slowly write what I have been through since day 1 until day 5, which is today.
Bye.
